Having website URL abbreviation / shortcuts tied to bookmarks

Opera used to have this and several other browsers offer this feature. I have found it to be extremely useful is to allow for an abbreivation/aliasfor a site ie boa for Bank of America/ opf for opera forum / NYSDMV for the long utle for New York State department of motor vehicles etc etc etc....

You can fake bookmark nickname/keyword support a little bit by creating search engines.

Right-click in the address field and click on "Edit Search Engines".

Then, add "other search engine". For example:

Search Engine: Arstechnica
Keyword: ars
URL: https://arstechnica.com/

(notice that there's no %s used in the URL in this case)

Then, in the address field, whenever you want that site, type ars and a space and hit enter.

@burnout426 Interesting and creative. Not as easy and might become a bit unyielding if you use it extensively. Plus not as easy to manage. That same previous option gave you the option to set an alias/nickname for the URL as well as to manage any associated passwords for that site. It was pretty great.

I would love to have nicknames for bookmarks back.

In the good old days I could just hit Shift+F2 and enter the nickname. When the entered text were unique, I did not even have to press enter. It used to be such a time saver!

But "don't fix what ain't broken" is out of fashion in many areas - let's hope, that we will get this feature back in the future.
