I just noticed Opera stable's version number is 22.0.1471.50 and Opera Next is 22.0.1471.40. I thought Next should be an higher version that Stable. I downloaded and installed the latest version of both just now and there was no change. Is this correct or is there something wrong with my system or my thinking?

Versions proceed from Developer to Next to Final/Released class as they are refined. When a version is first promoted to a higher class, it may for a short time exist in both the class into which it is moved and the class from which it was promoted. Since the promotion process often involves also adding in a few more fixes, the build number appended to the version will often be bumped in the promotion process... leaving, for a brief time, the same version number in both the prior and the new class, with the new class's build number slightly higher.

Since the versions don't promote in lock-step in all three classes, there will occasionally be overlaps of version numbers, but not necessarily build numbers, here or there as things unfold. At some point not far off, the next higher version will get promoted out of Developer into Next and the version overlap you observed will evaporate.

Usually we get Developer promoted to Next about a week after Next goes to Stable, so look for Opera Next 23 next week sometime.
