@liandri Seems to be working here with the latest Opera 61 Dev build. I'm also on Win8.1x64. In Beta and in Stable it doesn't work.

I have installed Opera for a couple of weeks and I can not figure out what the problem is. 90% of twitter videos does not play and displays the message: "Could not play media".
Follow screenshot: http://prnt.sc/nc1zh1
Opera just upgraded to version 60.0.3255.27
Follows details: whatsmybrowser.org/b/KE5X5XQ
I tested on Mozilla and Chrome the videos run normally. Is there a solution? -

That's great! I can check 8.1 with Opera Developer myself too when I get a chance. Wasn't aware of any changes that would affect this.

@Daigo Goto https://get.geo.opera.com/pub/opera-developer/61.0.3290.0/win/, download the Opera installer, launch it, click "options", set "install path" to a folder on your desktop, set "install for" to "standalone installation", uncheck "import data from default browser", adjust any other settings you want and install. Test in that Opera. If it works there, the fixes will make it into stable Opera eventually. @liandri, please try the same thing.

@burnout426 Dev build does not have this problem. Considering the issue may be related to licensing, however, I'm not going to assume the "fix" will automatically transfer to public build. We'll see. I didn't find anything regarding this issue in v61 changelogs.

Well hopefully Win 8.1 does indeed have the WMF transform needed for h.264 etc. and Opera just had a bug where it wasn't using it. I'll try to find out.

@temkem You have windows 8.1 Core or Pro?
I tried it yesterday and video worked in Vivaldi on Win 8 Pro, but currently I checked it on another PC with Win 8 Core and it doesn't work(I don't see error message but video just doesn't load and I see freeze frame). I'll recheck it later on Win 8 Pro again. -

@liandri Thanks for the info. I was also wondering if it was Opera. I use the same and on the same 8.1 x64. Hope there is an Opera update that fixes it. Thanks all

@burnout426 The only difference is that in the dev version the video is frozen in the first frame. The error message is not displayed as in the stable version. But thanks for the attempt!

@Daigo So, you're saying it doesn't really play in the developer version either?
-
Daigo last edited by
@burnout426 Yes, I installed the dev version, following the steps you indicated. The previous error screen that read "Could not play the media." does not appear. The "play" button is activated, I click on it to start, however, the video is stopped in the first frame. The video timeline appears as fully charged, even with the total time being displayed, but does not play.

Just to see if it makes any difference, goto the URL
opera://settings/system
in Opera, turn off hardware acceleration, restart Opera, and try again. -

Also, install https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/user-agent-switcher-5/ and try again masking as Chrome for Windows.

Also, if you want, set
opera://flags/#autoplay-policy
to "No user gesture required" while testing just to see if it makes any difference. It shouldn't, but you can try.
