about once a week i use freefilesync to cackup the user profile folders of my browsers, but with opera there is always two files that i don't have permission to backup, and i have to tell ffs to simply ignore them. should i go into my profile folder and take ownership of them, or can i just ignore them and when replacing opera's user profile with my backup not have an issue? thanks

As seen in the pic, the files are ~/.config/opera/oauc_pipe and ~/.config/opera/oauc_pipe_r, and, as it is also desctribed in the error, they are "socket" filetype.
With a simple search, I found that socket files can not be copied or moved or tared, so you just ignore the errors and make the backup utility ignore them too. -

In Linux, everything is a file. Your graphics card is a file, your printer is a file, your computer's RAM is a file - everything. If you did a full backup, you think it would include the printer and graphics card? Same sort of thing here - a socket may be considered a file, but it doesn't have data you could backup.
(Maybe I should have used your keyboard, mouse, and hard drive as examples - they are also files.)
