Is it possible now? It seems it used to be. Also, with Shift pressed in the background new tab

Middle mouse button opens the link in a new (background) tab.

Yes, indeed it does, thank you! It appeared that I have to hold the wheel being pressed for the very long time (a couple of secs perhaps) to make a click successfuly. Guess I need another mouse, thought of Logitech better
