Data savings in automatic mode

Hi there, I can't find information about the Data savings Automatic mode...

Can you explain us how the Data Saving automatic mode works?
Which is the criteria to change automatically between modes (high, extreme, off)?
Which is the difference being in automatic mode, between using wifi and a mobile data plan?

is there any documentation on that?

As far as I know, it chooses between high and extreme modes depending on how the site behaves in extreme mode. If it's known that the site works well, then extreme mode is used. Otherwise, high mode will be chosen.

how do you determine if the site will be working or not?
How is this check?

Is there any chance to know which is the current mode (selecting automatic)?
