Does Opera have an email client and, if so, how do I install it?

I've been using Thunderbird for my emails but now it's telling me I have to compress my files and folders but the last time I did that I lost hundreds of emails and folders and was never able to recover them. I don't want to go through that nightmare again. So I'm looking for a new email client. Opera is my default browser and I'm hoping you also handle emails. If there isn't one in Opera could you please suggest a good stable email client that can handle email accounts from various places like gmx, outlook, yahoo, etc?

There is an old (based on Opera 12) mail program available, but it might as well be abandonware as they don't update it. I use it - have for years - but I really can't recommend it due to the lack of updates.

Thanks for your prompt response. In me looking, I had seen some references to an old client but I thought for sure, Opera would have a current one. Do you have any suggestions for another email client?

There are some things you can do in Thunderbird to get around your problem.

If that doesn't work, see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/maildir-thunderbird and https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird/Maildir for how to switch mail storage to maildir. While it's experimental, it works fine for new accounts in a new profile. In that case, you could rename your profile , set everything up fresh with maildir support and then use the import/export tools extension to import your messages back. A lot of work to solve the problem, but so is switching to a new client.
