Enable wallpaper setting won't stay

I just got a new computer and am installing Opera and the "enable wallpaper" setting won't stick.
A new tab (speed dial) opens up with no wallpaper and just a white background.
If I go into settings and turn on wallpapers, it will stick for the session, but if I close out my browser and reopen it, all new tabs / speed dials opened have the "wallpapers" setting turned off again and I'm back to the white background.
Any idea why the wallpaper settings (enabling it) won't stay on?. I've already re-installed Opera (from the uninstall programs menu) to no avail. I'm running Opera 56.0.3051.107 -

Fresh install on brand new computer. Other changes like sidebar customization and settings (reopen with previous tabs) are still intact. Wallpaper is the only thing that seems to not stick.
I'm wondering if I should sign in and sync Opera profile with my old computer. Right now, I'm not signed in to the browser and it's just running as a standalone.

I just moved to Beta and the problem does NOT exist in Beta. Wallpapers works fine there. I'll just stick to beta for now, but unsure if this is a release problem or somehow specific to me.
