You can try the following suggestions,
-
proceed to clear the cache and then Restart your Opera again.
-
or you can reset back to default settings, if that doesn't work
-
try uninstalling and reinstalling Opera again.
Hope that works for you.

Thank you. Will uninstalling Opera and reinstalling lose all my settings and data ?
Can Opera be "repaired" rather than totally reinstalled ?
I cannot risk losing all my personal data entered on Opera. -

@johnbull44
What happens to Speed Dials, Bookmarks and Passwords when a reinstall is carried out ? -

Usually, nothing.
How does Opera save this data on my computer when it has been uninstalled ?

It's a simple reinstall or we are talking about un-installing and then re-installing?
Anyway, when you uninstall Opera, you are asked if you to remove your data. To keep it, just don't select that option.
Many thanks for your efforts in trying to help me, but I am unhappy with uninstalling my Opera.
I am still using Windows XP, SP3 and my Opera is frozen at version 36. It does not state the precise version derivatives, just 36.
I cannot find a confident Opera version 36 download site on the web, so will have to stay with my Opera and put up with not being able to sync.I cannot check the precise Opera version I have e.g 36 *** **** to match what the web shows.

There's a high chance that the cause of your problem is the fact that you are using a very old version of Opera in a very old OS, both unsupported.
I understand Leocg.
I have to keep with my Windows XP for personal reasons. I would love to upgrade to windows 10 or even buy a new computer - no problem.
But my circumstances are that I have to stay put for as long as possible. It is very annoying to be so out of date, but it has to be for the present.I feel the sync should still work on version 36, but if it does not, then sobeit.
When I have to upgrade, I will have a professional to download my XP settings and data for transfer or use a Flash Drive.Thank you for your help.
