I do system backups after each windows update which also includes updating other software like browsers in this case Opera.
I tried to update Opera in the normal manner and got the message "An error occurred" etc which didn't surprise me as I often get this message.
So I went to the official Opera download site to try the offline installer. This opened a download box but nothing would download !
I then went to Filehippo and got offerred the 64 bit version of Opera when my machines are 32 bit and as far as I know incapable of running 64 bit software.
I then tried another slightly less well known download site which successfully downloaded 56.0.3051.104 presumably from another Opera server as Opera was mentioned in the download url. My machine finally got updated.
Why is there this hassle with updating Opera ? I don't get update problems with other browsers.

You should download softwares only from their official pages.

Downloading from other sources may lead to security and privacy issues.

I run all downloads through virustotal and probably for this reason I like an offline installer. If I downloaded via Operas online installer I have no control over the files being downloaded to the laptop.
