Did you try with a clean Opera profile folder?

Yes, I deleted this entire folder, I uninstalled the opera and reinstalled.

It would be interesting to see if others using Opera 36 on Vista also have the same issue. Since Vista is no longer supported, maybe there were changes on Sync that are preventing very old versions to login.

That may be the case, it's only been 8 days since the sync stopped working...
