Opera 21 Terrible Lag!

  • I see, so it does have issues on Windows 8.x in general then.
It doesn't. I use Win8.1 x64 just like you and I experience no lags (as long as I don't fill all my RAM of course).

  • This browser isn't working out for me with Windows 8.1, I've decided to go with Chrome & Firefox.

  • Using 8.1 on x64 and I'm also experiencing no lags. Must be something unique to your system. Try a re-install.

  • I have noticed serious lag on Windows 7 64bit. I do have several add-ons installed but I had the same ones installed well before this lag became apparent.

  • In Windows 8.1, it lags sometimes, but when I open YouTube lags a lot.

  • I have a laptop using Vista. Whenever I open Opera 21, It also starts anywhere from 5-10 Opera processes. I wouldn't have known it if I didn't start task manager and look at processes tab. I just go in and delete all the lower memory ones and leave the highest memory Opera process. Terrible way to have to use it , but I then have a usable browser. Anyone have any ideas why that is happening?

  • Terrible way to have to use it
You don't have to do that. You just need to discover then what plug-in or extension is hanging your PC and disable/uninstall it from opera:plugins and opera:extensions.

Anyone have any ideas why that is happening?
    It's normal. https://forums.opera.com/topic/2454/multiple-processes-for-opera-exe

  • After update Opera freezes at start. No tabs are opened, no add-ons are installed. Win 8.1 x64. It is very very sad to me.

    Any Speed Dials?

    Any Speed Dials?

Yes, default speed-dials. But before update it was OK.

  • Try renaming favorites* .* just to test if it makes any difference.

Btw, have you changed any flags?

  • No, I didn't change anything in Opera, OS or Hardware, just installed an update. Renaming favorites did not help.

I've noticed that browser unfreezes after a time (10-30 minutes).

  • Have added your SD entries again after renaming favorites*.* or the problem continues even without a SD entry?

  • Yes, the problem continues with an empty SD-list.

  • Actually I have a similiar problem. Also Win 8.x 64bit. I realized it just freezes with certain pages (Facebook being one,der-postillion.com and ashwinder.sycophanthex.com others, all three work in Firefox). At first it starts off as a really long loading time and then turns into freezing opera and eventually the entire system.
Funny thing: I haven't changed a thing with opera except updating. It has only become this worse lately though.
Any ideas? I pretty lost with this, especially as my knowledge about computers is pretty basic. I tried clearing the cache first thing but it didn't help.

  • Yes, the problem continues with an empty SD-list.

Have you tried with a new profile folder? Rename the current one, so Opera will create a new one, and see if the lag still happens.

  • I had a lot of issues with Opera 21 in XP SP3. Every time I opened a new tab Opera lag or freeze some seconds, 10 to 30 sometimes even more. It also happened when I tried to write in the address bar. Tried disabling extension and cleaning my speed dial but nothing worked. Then I just reinstalled Opera 20 end everything is working fine. There's something really wrong with Opera 21.

  • I'm experiencing this lag too since the update, and ONLY since the update. I used to be able to have 30-40 tabs open in OPera and no lag. Now it's horrible with just a handful of tabs open.

  • It is lagging here to load some pages.

  • I've been working just some hours with Opera 22 and everything looks fine. No lags opening tabs, no freezes typing on the address bar 🙂
