This is the format example provided [*.]example.com. The problem I type * then . as soon as the "." is typed the field turns red indicating it's disallowed, even though the example says it allowed.

Further, I deleted all cookies from "msn", then I entered the following exception msn.com and selected "Blocked", went to the website, but after a search for "msn", cookies for that site were still found including for the exact match "msn.com".

      What going on?

@yekcimm The [] are necessary, are you including them?

Firstly, the [] have always indicated "optional" parameters; however I even tried that and as I suspected typing the first "[" caused the field to go red. The [] are there only to indicated optional parameters and are not to be included.

@yekcimm Here it works if I use the format indicated in the field: [*.]site.com. You should note that it will validate only after you have written the full address.

@leocg You're right it did work when completely written out. However, I still have issues: First, "msn.com" failed to block cookies to that specific reference; second, opera should never have used [] that are universally used to indicate optional-parameters. Why not just use "*.msn.com" that is universally used by search engines.

              Thanks for the help.

Update: "[*.]msn.com blocked all cookies from msn. msn sends cookies by several references of which "msn.com" is one, I would have expected that at least cookies filed under that reference would have been blocked by the search parameter "msn.com", but for some reason they weren't.

However, alls well that ends well, as "[*.]msn.com" blocked all cookies from msn.

@yekcimm It's something from Chromium, so you may need to ask them.

@leocg Didn't realize Opera was based on Chromium; leave it to Google to ignore convention.
                    Thanks again for your help.
