  • Hi,

removed unwanted search engines come back on every update since feature intro.

Everything else work fine on my system, so far.

  • @loup001 You mean the pre-installed ones? Well, it was never officially possible to remove them, people just used to use a workaround.
Once the files are replaced with an update, the search engines return.

  • @leocg

    ![A picture ... 1000 words !](0_1530583098095_6174b6d0-cb6c-497e-810b-5bd3f4c3af63-image.png /home/loup/)

    Sorry for not being clear

I need to inquire a little more, previous version kept search tools deleted
    ( that i noticed)

With this update, it does not remain delete.

  • @leocg

Ok checked and i was under a false impression. 😬

I assumed that it was removed from my system.
Did not seem logic that it would " remove " for one session 😖

    Thank's for your time !

  • @loup001 Ah, I totally forgot that new settings page has an option to remove search engines.
Don't know but I think it's there by mistake.

  • Hi @loup001, it seems to be a "work in progress", and most likely it will be changed in one of the further updates - it might either disallow to remove the default engines, as it is in the old layout, or it will be fixed to keep the changes after the restart.

  • @loup001 You can remove them (except Google) by following the below steps:

    1. Open opera:about, copy the path to installation root, and make a note of the path to profile, close the browser,

    2. Open your file explorer, on Windows navigate to the installroot\operaversion\resources subfolder
      (installroot\resources on Linux, installroot/Contents/Versions/operaversion/Opera Framework.framework/Resources on Mac),
make a copy of the default_partner_content.json (if you want to revert to it, when you change your mind), and overwrite the default_partner_content.json with ab_tests.json,

    3. Navigate to the profile folder, remove the default_partner_content.json, and relaunch the browser.

All default search engines (except Google) should be removed. Please keep in mind, that after the change, you can set your custom engine as the default one, only for the current session. To be able to set it, you need first change the name of the Google engine.
