Default page always opens

If I hit a link in an email to go to a specific webpage, the default webpage also opens. With 2 pages trying to open at the same time, it makes Opera chug a little longer. Is there a way to stop this?

Is this in an external email client or a webmail page inside Opera?

If an external email client, is Opera running before you click the link? If not, does it make a difference if Opera is already running?

@tomg88 Yes, if Opera is open it goes right to the link, if it's closed it opens the homepage and link at the same time.

What do you have "Menu -> Settings -> on Startup" set to just so I have the same setup?

Open a command prompt while Opera is closed:
Windows Key + r
cmd
enterand try this:
cd "C:\Program Files\Opera"
enter
launcher "https://arstechnica.com"
enterWith Opera set to "open with start page" or "continue from last time" (where the only tab that was open was the start page), Opera opens up with just a single tab that's for arstechnica. It doesn't also open the start page for me. Windows 10 Opera 53.0.2907.68 x64.
