@zwollywood See https://forums.opera.com/topic/26954/links-do-not-open-in-external-apps/10, it seems similar.

Thank you for the link. Unfortunately, the solution cannot be found there. Other users couldn't get it done either. I have Android Pie on Oxygen 9.5.5 with Opera version 52.2.2517.1398.16

I've been having this problem for years. Many updates to the Opera Android app still don't seem to have fixed this. There are plenty of people asking how to fix this issue but no real solutions. It seems to me this is a fault with the app and the developers should fix it. How can we convince them to add this as an option?

Well, I couldn't really check online payments, but tapping the title of an embedded YouTube opens a new tab in opera, doesn't open the app like my other browsers do...

I've seen this is a long date issue, a lot of people have this problem which looks like not to have a solution but the last post about this has been posted a time ago, so let's go:
I can't open external links with Opera for Android. For exemple, when I'm in a payment app and want to go to the store associated, I go to Opera and it doesn't open the store's app. I just wanted to know if there's a solution for this. If not, I'd like to say that you, developer from Opera, please include this feature on a next update, because this is a basic feature from other browsers. I mean, I'm loving Opera, but I'm missing that. Thanks -

@gui-prata PS.: I know there's a setting in which I can do it, but on my tests it just worked with Youtube, and other browsers can easily open any link on their respective apps.

@svdoesum for youtube if you tap on the green lock button to the left of the URL you'll see an option to open link in an external app.

@svdoesum it's three years later and it still doesn't work. There is an option in the settings for opening pages in external apps which doesn't really work. It opens YouTube links in the standard YouTube app which is not set as my default via Android. For Reddit and Twitter or doesn't work at all.
Please just fix this. I don't want to go back to Chrome. -

Can't believe or understand why Opera can't respect the security verification through the digital asset and the app-link native apis?
It is bad for the seemless android experience.Chrome, Brave, Edge, Dolphin, etc.. work just fine.
Android Browsers should respect the android ecosystem!

I really don't know why they can't put that feature on the normal Opera when Opera GX has that feature but my problem with Opera GX however is that whenever I use the open in new tab it always put the new tab at the beginning, it's such a hassle when I have many tabs opened. Why can't Opera just combine the features of their android browsers? For me it would be the best browser if they do it tbh.

Hi everyone!
This thread is already quite old, but for everyone who is reading this in 2022, and asking themselves this question: They have already added this feature, although it's not really obvious.
You can open external apps by clicking on the shield icon, and choosing the option "Open im external app". This works only on certain websites, though, such as YouTube.
Of course, it's still pretty inconvenient because it doesn't work with the majority of the apps, but who knows, maybe they will add more apps soon?

@miluum the problem is that not every app has enough influence to be added and I'm afraid that's another way how Opera makes money.
