How to force opera to reuse the current window on startup?

Recently Opera started creating a new session upon startup even when it's already running.

How can I make it reuse the current session instead?

It's not startup if it's already running. You mean running it from the console, or clicking an icon or menu item somewhere ... and which desktop and distro?
