Running Opera 53.0.2907.37 Stable. Decided to try DuckDuckGo search engine.
Made the needed changes in Opera preferences switching from Google to DuckDuckGo and saved them. Now when searching www the Duck does come up. However when opening a new Opera tab, Google is still shown as the primary search engine right on top of all new tabs! Can't seem to get rid of Google here and get the Duck instead. Is this the way it is or is there a way to correct this? Or does it matter?

@cybrsaylr As already said several times, the search engine used on the start page search field is not related to the default search engine and can't be changed.

@cybrsaylr You should have the right to choose to have or not have Google on your PC, and yes, it does matter.
If you cannot have your own choice of search engine to start up each tab, what is the point of having it there? It's better just to get rid of Google completely and have nothing. After all, you can easily search DuckDuckGo by making it your default search engine, and typing "your search" directly into your browser address bar, instead of the search bar below.
To get rid of the search box completely and free up more space for links to pages, instead, go to: Opera Settings > Advanced > Browser. At the very top of the page there is the option to "Hide Search Box".
