When I'm watching a tv catch-up programme I sometimes want to move away and check emails or something else during the ad breaks. When I do this at the moment the video stops and only resumes when I go back to that tab. Is there a way to allow that tab to continue playing whilst I am doing something else?

@leocg I want the programme to keep running so I can do other things and return when the ads have finished. At the moment when I click the Gmail tab for instance the programme stops. When I return I must still still sit through all the ads.

I really should do more testing before posting!

              Your question got me thinking.

I tested BBC UK (no ads) and it played OK whether the tab was 'in focus' or not. I went to ITV UK (ads). As soon as the tab loses focus during an ad the feed stops. However if it loses focus during the programme it does not stop. I tested it with Channel 4 UK (ads) and exactly the same thing happened. So it seems as if they have a mechanism that can sense if the tab is in focus and if it is not then they stop the feed to force one to watch the ad!

Very cunning. I wonder if anyone can think of a workaround?

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately that didn't work.

Not sure if #1 is enough or you may need #2.
