Youtube freezing when used in background

Have any other users been experiencing Youtube freezes when used in the background? the issue seems to occur when I try to click back to the youtube tab after leaving it running behind the scenes, it then buffers despite being fully loaded.

The issue has started occurring repeatedly on both my systems and seems to resolve when disabling hardware acceleration in the settings, an unelegant solution. Both systems utilise Pascal graphics cards and Intel CPUs.
