with google keyboard 5.0.25 or tablet keyboard 2.2.2, text typed in the compose area is shown right-to-left. both these keyboards work fine other places. my bluetooth keyboard works okay.

i can't find settings anywhere that control this behaviour.

This should be my last posting on this problem as I found an easy workaround. Expand the window using the button above the compose window and everything works fine.
