Customize speed dial (startpage) css ?

Hello, I was searching for a way to make speed dial thumbs semi-transparent, so I can see a background image behind them. Such thing ca be easily achieved with extensions that inject css/js into pages, but none of those seem to work with startpage (speed dial).
I can inspect startpage with dev tools and see that it's files are stored in some sort of inner storage, for example: "chrome://startpage/start_page.css"
I didn't found any of these files in my filesystem and I assume they are archived somewhere in resources and hidden well.
All I need is to tweak start_page.css a little, there's no need to create a whole new start page extension for this.
Can someone from developers give me a hint where to find these files?
Thank you.

Yes you were at least able to mod the startpage (replace) it with modded/custom code. But now since Reborn Sidebar I'm not so sure.
I'd say it's worth to try to tweak a bit - it's about time devs work SP/SD addons to work with Reborn Sidebar.
