VERY slow loading and at opening new tabs

At first, Opera was very fast. Then it began slowing down. I have cleaned my PC, removed adware, hijackers, etc., run CCleaner, and defragged. But I still have this issue.
Deathfragger posted "I had a similar problem. It was getting better for me after I disabled the following flag:
opera://flags/#enable-async-dns"I don't know how to disable this flag, or even where to find it. I have no training in programming.
I just want a slimmed down, fast browser, with no bells or whistles. I HATE the ironically named "speed dial" page which comes up with new tabs. There is no way to get rid of it.
Even if I right click a link and select open in new tab, it is still terribly slow to load.
Does anyone know what the issue might be? Why did Opera feel the need to rewrite their software when it was working so well before?
If people wanted a slow browser with lots of crap on the new tabs they would have chosen a different browser. As soon as some other developer comes up with a slimmed down, fast browser, the kind of thing Opera USED to have, Opera will lose their users to the simple, fast, and better product.
