Opera 50.0 keeps crashing.

I use Opera 50.0 on a mac mini running El Capitan (10.11.6)
This latest version crashes on a frequent basis. There is no discernible pattern. It even crashed when I first tried to load this web site. I reinstalled to see if that would help. It did not.
What can I do? Opera has been an excellent browser until now. But frequent crashes make it a browser not worth the trouble. -

I am getting no response. Opera 50 keeps crashing or I get the spinning beachball of death and I can;t force quit.
I want to go back to Opera 49. Question: do I need to delete Opera 50 before I install?
