I guess as a random someone who never paid anything for Opera I have little right to complain about anything in the first place...

However as it currently stands I can no longer use Opera with the HEAVY DOWNGRADE of VPN in Opera 50.

Today I was forced to update Opera since "VPN is no longer Supported" and what I got was horrible.
Instead of being able to choose specific Countries USA, Netherlands, Germany I'm now resricted to continents. That would not be that much of a problem.... But the Speed of the VPN connection is bad joke... Simple sites are loading for ages... video streaming... lol! forget that!

(OFC... I already tried alot to fix this aka antivirus, router, third party - no use)

The main usage of my Opera was to avoid the strict region locks I have to suffer when using streaming provider such as Crunchyroll. Sadly - that's impossible now.

If that's not going to be fixed I'll have to look for another solution and there's little reason for me left to use Opera at all. 😕

    Just why?....

Use Firefox with HOXX VPN addon and the IP leak stopper addon.
    For free.

  • Opera VPN is working great right now! I'm in NY USA and selected Americas and got a NY City server giving me great speeds all around. Videos are even playing well!

    Hope it lasts!

  • Opera free VPN provides these options: Optimal location (default), the Americas, Europe and Asia.

Unfortunately the option for the "Asia" do not work as it should work.
When I choose "Asia" location, it connects to a Germany IP adress (so an Europe country and not an Asia country): https://i.imgur.com/2uMWgVw.png

    Optimal location works great: https://i.imgur.com/QbX5rbP.png
    Americas works great: https://i.imgur.com/McD56sZ.png
    Europe works great: https://i.imgur.com/ZNbYHgU.png

And please increase the bandwidth of Opera's VPN servers. Previously, when supplied by SurfEasy LLC the bandwidth was much faster (and better)!

Specs: Opera 50.0.2762.58 stable in a Windows 10 Pro computer

I noticed the same issue with some sites. I thought I was getting greatly improved performance when running speedtest and then realized the VPN was flapping.
Also, I'm under the impression that Opera's VPN still suffers from the WebRTC IP leak and that obfuscating the IP address isn't reliable.

    that's because it does.

  • @cbrown72701 currently trying ScriptSafe addon to prevent such things.
    haven't tried uMatrix yet
@chuchkyschild are you using any of these addons? if so, are you pleased with the results?

safescript is like noscript for firefox and won't have any effect on WebRTC IP leak. i'll checkout umatrix and let you know what i think.

i see umatrix is another script blocker so won't have any affect on WebRTC IP leak.

  • @chuchkyschild thanks mate. with ScriptSafe enabled, i checked on ipleak.com/full-report/ and yeah no effect on WebRTC IP leak.
i was looking at these addons WebRTC Protect, WebRTC Control. will try them out.
As for now, i use uBlock Origin, pricavy badger, disable WebGL

@rudrick were you using uMatrix? if so, does it prevent WebRTC IP leak?

  • @acidinmyfridge just added webrtc protect and privacy badger and ran the test and passed.

  • @pinportal what happened? the other options dissapeared americas is the only one left

  • is vpn working for any of you currently? cause ican't connect to anything and except for americas all the other options have dissapeared

  • @chocolate888822 is right the vpn is now worst it's ever been.

  • I'm in New York and when selecting Americas NY City last couple days VPN was working decently. Today VPN is running very erratic and slower than ever.

  • It's well after the Holidays and the Opera VPN performance is worst than ever. It can't even maintain a reliable connection to the forum; keep getting pop-up messages advising of a disconnect. From the forum discussion, it appears that many are abandoning the browser; it seems that Opera has really shot-itself-in-the foot!

  • Have now got used to being ignored by Opera staff. What a shame as it was a good browser which seemed to be responsive to its users. Badly disappointed as Opera still have not commented and it shakes my confidence in how Opera will continue to have the confidence of its users.

  • Using win 10, 64 bit & Opera 50.0.2762.58 (PGO).
I'm located in TX and I have set the VPN location to the Americas. It connects alright. So far, so good.
However, when I access US websites (e.g Huffport or NYT, etc., I see ads in all kinds of languages. Some in Norwegian, some in Swedish, some in French, every now and then I see one in Russian.
When I'm on Amazon, trying to order an item, I get messages that this item cannot be shipped to Sweden or Norway, etc.
Doesn't look like VPN has been fixed, or is it just me?

No it's not just you. You could also try updating to 50.0.2762.67 and see if that helps. Not hopeful though.
