How to stop Opera from updating permanently?

Since the release of Opera 49 my favourite browser since 2001 has become useless for my use with the removal of Flash Player support. I currently reinstall Opera 48 manually (it only takes 2 seconds to do) every time it decides to upgrade to 49 for me. So my question is this: How can I permanently block Opera from updating? I'm currently begrudgingly looking at replacing my browser with the new FireFox which does look like it can do what I want but I'm a long term fan of Opera so I'd rather if Opera just supported automatic Flash Player sites instead like it always has. If not, I'll have to change browser or be stuck on 48.

Rename the auto update executable, it should prevent auto updates.

Did you rename the correct one? Also, did you install Opera 48 while being offline?

@leocg That seems to do it. Enabling flight mode. Install 48. Rename auto update exe. Update is gone from task scheduler so seems to be working now.

I do hope a future version of Opera will support automatic flash player sites so I can update it again but for now, Opera 48 will have to do.

@saturnusdk Chromium is deprecating support for Flash - that will be ended by Adobe in 2020 - and as a part of the process, from now on you will need to allow Flash every time you play it for the first time in a site.

@leocg It doesn't interest me what the reason is. All I need to know from Opera Software AS is that they're working on a solution that will give the same usability in 49 as I had in 48. Opera will lose literally 1000s of users over this as business travellers that frequently go to South East Asia, and China in particular will now have to find another secure browser.
