Hello all
I ran VPN briefly, then stopped it when I saw unexpected network traffic going to bank in Ukraine. Blocked bank IP in router and saw unexpected network traffic going to European Central Bank. Check out WebRTCLeak Prevent addon for Opera. VPN is reportedly not as secure as we may like. Search for it on the web.
Stay safe -

I had the same problem, and solved it this way:
- Turn BitDefender off (gear icon, Protection, Protection Shield)
- Turn on VPN in Opera for each location (Optimal, Canada, US, etc.).
- After the VPN icon is Blue for each location, turn BitDefender on.
- Go to a different web site and see if the VPN works.
This is temporary, because if you shut down Opera, you will probably have the problem again.
the problem isn't bitdefender. once one component of opera is allowed so are all components.

@roman-five I'm sorry, but the instructions on this website don't make any sense to me. There's no Setup option in Kaspersky, and I can't find any other place in Kaspersky's settings where I could configure exceptions. Can you clarify the instructions given on this website? Thanks.

@mrsomewhere what version of the antivirus do you have?
I have 18.0.0.405 (f)
In the network settings, you can configure exceptions to check encrypted traffic.

Thanks for the replies. I have version 17; it doesn't have the option to manage exclusions. -

You must upgrade to version 2018:
KIS 2018
KTS 2018
КАВ 2018
You can simply install the new 2018 version over the old 2017 version. After the upgrade will be possible to make exclusions.

I'm repeatedly getting disconnects and partial file downloads. Not to mention it is horrendously slow.
When I tried to download a file with the VPN on it showed more than an hour, but then disconnected. When I downloaded the same file with the VPN off, it downloaded the file in about 5 seconds.
Are there any VPN plug-ins ? I see Chrome has a number of VPN plug-ins. Will they work on Opera ?

You're wrong. Antivirus, in my case Bitdefender, IS the issue. I have Bitdefender Free Edition 1.0.10.8, last updated 1/18/2018 (Antimalware Engine 7.74669), and the latest Opera 50.0.2762.58 (PGO). Exactly the same behaviour as noted by morningwood. -

@justaguy the following is pure bull. and you know it. you can set everything in bitdefender to manual, but you cannot shutdown bd via it's settings page.

@chuchkyschild As it says in my Step 1, I explain how to turn off the Protection Shield, not shut down Bitdefender entirely.
But since I made the above post, I now cannot use Opera's VPN at all, regardless of what I do. So the problem seems to have evolved over the past month.

@chuchkyschild Nobody said anything about setting things to manual in Bitdefender. All you have to do is turn off the Bitdefender Protection Shield, turn on the Opera VPN, turn the Bitdefender Protection Shield back on and everything works until the Opera is restarted. Then you have to repeat the steps.
