click on the settings on the top of your bitdefender free version then on the drop-down menu click protection.
on that window turn off protection/now connect your vpn until blue, now you can put protection back onto your anti-virus and vpn carries on running.Does BD has any exceptions option?

Getting the same problem here and I'm not using Bit defender. It started slowing down 4 days ago and for the last day it hasn't worked at all.

@big65 : I'm having the same problem with the VPN not connecting, for the past week. I've been using Opera browser for a while now, and one of the main reasons for me using Opera is the VPN. Lately, I'm beginning to have second thoughts on whether I should change browsers. And the problems with the VPN not connecting started shortly after Symantec (Norton) purchased SurfEasy last month. It would be helpful if Norton or SurfEasy chimed in to give Heads Up on what is going on. Opera is not the browser it once was.

Actually, Opera is still the browser it was. With Opera's sale of SurfEasy to Symantec in September and Opera's setting up its own VPN service for use by the browser, there appear to be some transitional VPN issues along with some structural changes in where the new VPN servers are located. The point is that the browser hasn't really changed, it's the VPN structure that is changing - or has changed.

@blackbird71 : In any event, I hope the issue of the VPN is resolved soon.

I had the same problem, and solved it this way:
- Turn BitDefender off (gear icon, Protection, Protection Shield)
- Turn on VPN in Opera for each location (Optimal, Canada, US, etc.).
- After the VPN icon is Blue for each location, turn BitDefender on.
- Go to a different web site and see if the VPN works.
This is temporary, because if you shut down Opera, you will probably have the problem again.

I have a VPN in Opera 49.0.2725.64 blocked by KIS (Kaspersky)
Disabling the option "Scan secure connections on protection components" certainly helps but is not very secure, is there another way. -

VPN in Opera Beta 50.0.2762.42 checked, it works together KIS (Kaspersky) can in 50 versions everything will be fine, we will wait for the release.

Hello all
I ran VPN briefly, then stopped it when I saw unexpected network traffic going to bank in Ukraine. Blocked bank IP in router and saw unexpected network traffic going to European Central Bank. Check out WebRTCLeak Prevent addon for Opera. VPN is reportedly not as secure as we may like. Search for it on the web.
Stay safe -

the problem isn't bitdefender. once one component of opera is allowed so are all components.

@roman-five I'm sorry, but the instructions on this website don't make any sense to me. There's no Setup option in Kaspersky, and I can't find any other place in Kaspersky's settings where I could configure exceptions. Can you clarify the instructions given on this website? Thanks.

@mrsomewhere what version of the antivirus do you have?
I have 18.0.0.405 (f)
In the network settings, you can configure exceptions to check encrypted traffic.
