Google cookie - Channel ID

I use the 'Keep local data only until I quit my browser' option in the privacy settings. I've noticed recently it has been deleting all cookies when closing the browser (never used to) but there seems to be one cookie 'Google.com Channel ID' that remains every time. Does anyone know what this cookie is for and why it never gets deleted unless deleted manually?

The problem with this Google cookie seems to be related to Opera 48 as Opera beta 49 does clear all cookies. I'm loosing count the number of issues I've had with Opera 48 (mostly rendering quite a few websites). Beta 49 so far doesn't seem to have these issues.
