Why I'm still using Opera Mini 7.6.4

Right now if you use Opera mini 7.6.4 you will notice that there is much more publicity. I think they have done it to encourage us to move to the latest version of opera mini. Here I give you the reasons that make me stick with the old version.(excuse my bad English)
1- It really save data: the 7.6 version has the best compression method.
2-its has the best tab switcher. Personally I don't like the full screen tab switcher
3- better Compatibility with many websites: many websites that render correctly in mini 7 doesn't work at all in the new opera mini. Many times you must disable compression.
4- Remain open: opera mini 7 save all the tabs in the memory so that you don't have to reload a Web page. You just open mini 7 and you continue just where you left.
5- copy/paste facilities : just hold on any box to copy/paste text , a must.
6- manage my search engines simply
7- simple menu buttonThose are the reasons that make me stick with the old opera mini version. Because when I really want to browse the real Web I'm in another browser

but does this version block ads?
Lately other than normal ads people have been seeing ads from interstitial.opera-mini.net and you can't even block these ads cuz they are send to the browser directly from opera servers. What has become of opera mini really, it was once really great and lightweight but now they have bloated it with all kinds of Spyware.

Totally agree with all here: I'm on 7.6.40125 & always ignore Opera Mini pestering me to update. That was mainly because the (deliberately) stupid update promotion never mentions if you'll lose all your bookmarks & saved pages, presumably because Opera refuses to provide a way to back them up, & they can't provide THAT because they've buried the bookmarks & saved pages deep in the phone's non-user (=anti user) system.
•
Then I saw on my wife's Opera Mini (more recent) that she can't turn off image loading! That's an absolutely vital feature coz of the terrible signal strength in rural UK (due to margaret thatcher refusing to grasp that COmmunication is an intrinsically CO-operative action, so we have 10 squabbling, overstretched networks here, instead of 1 that works).

Turning off images at the start of a session is actually a great way to block Opera's data allowance-wasting "interstitial" & "adsense" bulls**t, probably why they removed it. -

The first reason of existence for the mini version is to save data. But I think have focused on something else now

1- It really save data: the 7.6 version has the best compression method.
Extreme mode in new Opera Mini is using the same compression mechanisms as 7.6 with some additional features, so that statement is false. High mode has a little worse compression ratio and uses more phone RAM and CPU, but provides normal web standards compability.
3- better Compatibility with many websites: many websites that render correctly in mini 7 doesn't work at all in the new opera mini. Many times you must disable compression.
Well, that sounds strange as both Opera Mini versions use the same servers. Can you give some example of sites that work well in Mini 7.6, but does not in new Mini?
4- Remain open: opera mini 7 save all the tabs in the memory so that you don't have to reload a Web page. You just open mini 7 and you continue just where you left.
Have you checked that using Extreme mode?
5- copy/paste facilities : just hold on any box to copy/paste text , a must.
Again, this is still available in Extreme mode.
6- manage my search engines simply
You still can add and remove your custom search engines, but indeed an option to edit the search URL is not implemented. If you need that, could you explain why?
stupid update promotion never mentions if you'll lose all your bookmarks & saved pages
When upgrading from Mini 7.6 to new version, you'll keep your bookmarks and saved pages. If you're worried that this may fail or you want to have an option to restore previous Opera Mini, you should do a backup of your app with app data. Unfortunately that is not easy on Android if you don't have root access (which is the case for most people).
Then I saw on my wife's Opera Mini (more recent) that she can't turn off image loading!
You can do that, but only in Extreme mode.

Hey, I've some words to say.
Previous version (7.6) Old Opera Mini has one useful copy-paste system that is still new Opera Mini has missing that features.
It's the Dialogue Box Copy system.
Here it is:-- From Old Opera Mini:-
If I write anything to a dialogue box. Then move cursor out of dialogue box. Then I can copy the whole dialogue box content by just long press and then select copy. So Easy..
But on new Opera Mini:-
If I write anything to a dialogue box & move cursor out of it (means I press back button) & then if I have to copy the whole dialogue box content then firstly I've to enter that dialogue box. Then long press & hold on. Then select all from the upper right corner icon. Then Copy.. Too Complicated.
On newer version I just can't copy the whole dialogue box writings with just simply press-hold-copy like the previous old Opera Mini. Newer version has only paste option by pressing long on any box. But doesn't have copy option.
So, for just Copy-Paste mechanism. Old Opera Mini is still better than new One.

I Don't know about compression mechanism but What I can see is that using the old mini is much more economical with my data than the new mini in extreme mode. That make me think there is 2 different compression methods. For example opening yahoo mail is better in the old mini than in the old. Doesn't remember each time, but many times when I switched to the new mini I was trying to open a link in the new mini. it doesn't work then I have to open the same link in the old mini. This fact make me think about to stick with the old mini.

One example I remember and also I've tried today is http://www.frandroid.com/ which work in the old opera mini and not in the new.

In the new OM if for example I restart the phone then when I come back to mini, it will reload all the opened pages when the old just read them in the memory.
That is the reason I am moving to old version
