How do I add Gmail as mailto app?

  • I read somewhere that I need to:

    1. Navigate to C:\ProgramFiles\Opera\defaults
    2. Find the file "webmailproviders.ini"
    3. Add:

    [Gmail]

    ID=8 URL=https://mail.google.com/mail/? source=mailto&tf=1&view=cm&fs=1&to=%t&su=%j&body=%m&cc=%k&bcc=%l ICON=http://mail.google.com/favicon.ico

    I want to know if this will work.
    And is Opera reminding me to upgrade, but I want this classic Opera. Am I right about it wanting me to upgrade to Opera Next?

  • If you are using Opera 12.16 or older, it's wanting to upgrade to 12.17.

  • The Gmail info in http://operawiki.info/WebMailto should still work. Just set it after you upgrade to 12.17 if you're using 12.16.

    If you're using Opera 20, you can just use the Gmail Compose Extension. Or, if you're using Opera 12, the older versions of the extension (1.7 for example) are here.

    The extension doesn't handle mailto URIs typed into the address field though. It only handles links on web pages (due to Opera not offering enough power to extensions).
