      In Gecko based browsers, if you start typing in the URL window, you can scroll to one of the results, put your cursor in that URL and edit it (ie. most often to remove everything after the domain), and hit enter to use it. This is very useful and something I do all the time. In Opera, you can only use the previous URL as is. Is there any way to change this?

          Thinking better, once you select the url you can edit it in address field.

            If you select it with scroll though, I reckon. Otherwise it might start loading as is right away.

              Yes, it starts loading if you select it. I meant edit the URL before loading the page.

                You can do it if you use the keyboard's arrow keys to select the url.
