Can the sync icon be pinned?

I want to keep the sync/sign-in icon displayed somewhere on the browser window, it appears to the right of the url space but it disappears eventually (which is the problem). It's important that I know weather or not I am synced because I was un-synced for a while and now my bookmarks have been invaded with the old ones I deleted. How can I display the sync/sign-in icon permanently ?
