Google Maps not working

After latest Opera stable update, maps.google.com will not function normally.
WIN10-64. Opera 46.0.2597.26 (PGO) Norwegian.
This applies to any Google Map site (https://www.google.com/maps)
Page loads overview, top left search bar and then Hangs, with rapid hourglass cursor blinking.
Have deleted cookies and Opera shows same behavior in Private mode. No extensions active. The rapid hourglass cursor blinking continues when browsing other tabs, with Google Maps in non-active tab.

Google Maps working as normal on latest updates of Firefox, Chrome and Edge.
No system or browser settings were changed before site started hanging on Opera.
Iโm a heavy Google Maps user, wanting to troubleshoot this.
Any recommendations on what to test?

Same here, Google maps hangs or is VERY slow with this update (46.0.2597.26 (PGO). Previous Opera version it worked fine. This applies to any web page that has GM incorporated in it.

Settings > Browser > System > Use hardware acceleration when available. This solves it here. I don't know why.

I have the same problem with latest iteration of Opera and Windows 8.1, with maps and also some other sites such as http://www.jigsawplanet.com were a selected jigsaw takes ages to load, or likewise with http://www.gapssolitaire.com were the game takes over a minute to load

Tagboy's suggestion to use hardware acceleration appears to work for me also.

Thanks for the tip tagboy! This makes maps.google.com function as normal.
After Opera 46 update, Google Maps also lets Opera browser use 3D-satellite view and site has same UI as Chrome.
About time, and thanks awesome Opera developers! :love:It also confirms that there is a bug, as this setting should not be required.
Great if someone from Opera would drop by and acknowledge that they are aware of the issue. No fix in update: 46.0.2597.32 (PGO) released today 27JUN.
Iโm using browser on a ThinkPad Intel i7, 16GB RAM. Mostly on battery power with Opera battery saver on.
Are there any drawbacks to having hardware acceleration enabled?

Mostly on battery power with Opera battery saver on.
Did you check with it off?

maps.google.com bug is unrelated to battery settings. Currently connected to wall power.
Intel HD Graphics set to maximum performance.
With hardware acceleration disabled, the issue remains.
Chrome and Firefox does fine without.

I also have a problem with google maps in 46.0.2597.32 (PGO) version.
Turning off or turning on hardware acceleration doesn't help.

With hardware acceleration disabled, the issue remains.
Why did you disable it? Some things depend on hardware acceleration to work.

Are you implying that hardware acceleration enabled should be a requirement for a major site such as maps.google.com to work normally on Opera?

Not sure about Google Maps itself.
Anyway, hardware acceleration is enabled by default so if someone has it disabled should be due to some issue.

Thanks leocg, Iโm good.
On Chrome, Google Maps has normal basic functionality with HWA disabled, as did Opera prior to 46 update โ thatโs why I thought some users might be confused.

same here, with or without hardware acceleration. Version 46.0.2597.26314
To me this is a bug. before no issues, after last couple of updates, maps is not working. One should not bother to turn HWA on or off. Similar using the "lite" version. Can folks from Opera share their lights? -

Cheers!
I have this same problem and tried turning off the Hardware Acceleration, and it sure solves the issue BUT then I realized the Facebook Messenger stops working
Also it seems that the browser works a little slower.
I find it so weird that there is no bug solution yet, as I guess thousands of people might be having the same issues!
So I am using Google Maps LITE for now, so I can use Facebook Messenger.PS: It's my first time commenting here. So I would take the chance to praise the work of Opera that I use since the version 9 and loving it!
