Videos not going fullscreen

So I recently got a monitor (which is now my primary monitor) and connected it to my laptop. At first, everything worked perfectly and Opera had no trouble. However, recently, I've been having a problem where Opera doesn't go fullscreen for any sort of video (not just Youtube) on my laptop monitor. I've tried disabling all my extensions, even changing the HDMI cable, but what I see when I try to fullscreen is a black image and a bar at the top ( a really subtle one) through which i can see my desktop.
The only fix I found was to set Opera to Windows 8 Compatibility mode ( I currently use 10), but for some reason, the ad blocker and VPN don't open their windows when clicked.
Not sure what to do at this point. If anyone can help me solve the problem, that would be great.
