Customize Speed Dial thumbnails + remove the Google search box

Hi, I think it would be a good feature to be able to customize the Speed Dial thumbnails (which take a lot of space on the screen), like by uploading personal images (like the logo of the siteweb in question) or by inquire the main domain the link is from. Because for example, on this screenshot , the thumbnails of the first line of links are great, but the custom ones (that I added myself) are random and unsightly.

Also, I've seen on this post that it's possible to remove de Google search box of the Speed Dial. I may be blind but I can't find what is said in the answer... Or this option have been removed in recent updates ?
