I'm using MS Security Essentials on O20, and its been working fine for the last couple of weeks that I've been using this consistently, throughout the day. I'm also running Malwarebytes on my computer as well. No problems with the browser.

I use the free version of AVG and it works just fine. No need to pay for an AV in this day and age.

AVAST has an extension that works with Mozilla, but I haven't found it yet for Opera.

Yes, Windows Defender is perfectly usable with Opera. My wife uses it without any issues. I choose to use AVG but that's just a personal choice. There's nothing wrong with using Defender.

Defender can be slow... yes. In general, I only use the complete scan after an install of the program OR unless I think there might be a problem. Otherwise, I use a Quick Scan.

Windows Defender / MSE is the dotted line in that chart. I wouldn't use it.

Haven't used that, sidneyneto. I'd seriously consider either AVG free OR Avast free. Both are highly rated.

Well, a complete scan will always be slow if you have a large amount of data and, of course, depending on your hardware. The AV settings also affects it.

According to the Portuguese Wikipedia PSafe partnered with BitDefender so they use their anti-virus software in it.

Read this link in Portuguese: http://gguimaraes.info/?p=238
It's a little old and maybe doesn't reflect how PSafe is now and your usage may be different, but it's relevant.

What is the best antivirus to use with Opera 20?

You dont use antivirus for any specific browser, you use it to protect you whichever browser you use and whatever else connects to the internet, To protect you from malicious emails and attachments and whatever you put into your computer such as USB flash drives, just dont use MSE, recent articles ive read say it misses 39% of malware, I got rid of MSE a while back and went to Avast free on all my computers, it even checks email and have a very good detection rate according to tests. Dont Bash Avast, if anyone prefers another antivirus thats perfectly fine.

I am afraid Psafe will make Opera slow down like Baidu Antivirus did.

Psafe is a Cloud Antivirus, I used to pay for TrendMicro for years and when they went to the Cloud I tried it and got immediatly infected, I will NEVER use or trust any AntiVirus that resides in the Cloud, The Antivirus and it's definitions HAS TO reside on my computer, I say NO to any Cloud Antivirus.

It's better to stay with known Companies with reputations that are known, that Psafe partnered up with Bitdefender is no garrantee that it's as good as Bitdefender which is an excellent antivirus, I couldnt even find any independent tests on Psafe, it's basically an unknown company from brazil, and ive never even seen it included in any independent lab tests that rate antiviruses.

It also is worth remembering that whenever installing any free AV software to look closely to make sure you aren't also installing other software along with it (toolbars, etc) that can clutter a system or browser and slow it down. Sometimes you have to do "custom" free AV installs rather than "automatic" installations to even see what other software may be pushed your way. These bundled programs are how some companies pay for their "free" software offerings. Sometimes they'll be opt-in, sometimes opt-out... but it's always wise to check carefully at installation before the deed gets done.
