Having had all my Opera settings, history, bookmarks, favourites etc. wiped out while solving video playback problems with the newest releases of Opera I am having to reconstruct all my Speed Dial settings. This has pointed up how unsatisfactory the current Speed dial is.

On the preceding release of Opera (45.0.2552.812, plus my old profile folder) I could easily remove the Google search bar from the Speed Dial page via 'Customise start page'. With the current Opera 45.0.2552.881 this option is no longer available. So how can I do this?

It's an old problem but older versions of Opera offered you a Favicon version of tiles on the SD page, is there any way back to this now? I can't help noticing that at least some of the Opera included tiles seem to use Favicons. If they can, why can't we?

Also, on earlier versions of Opera, if you wanted to add a tile you were proffered your current working Tab as your first choice. Now you get a collection of irrelevent 'choices' of not the slightest interest and have to copy & paste or manually type in the website you want. This is all long winded and tedious. The earlier approach made much more sense.

Right! Now found how to put Favicon style panes on Speed Dial page by using 'Favourites' in address bar. Options are: 'All bookmarks', 'Speed Dial', 'Bookmarks bar'.

Why don't they just leave it alone?

P.S. But this doesn't work properly with all sites.

        "...I may be some time..."

I don't know if it's down to my lost profile but I am having to learn how to use Opera all over again. Nothing seems to work as I am accustomed to in all preceding versions.

By enabling advanced settings like you did before.

          Nothing has changed on it.

Actually some things have changed. Previously the only way to change the search bar in the speed dial was through using the so called power settings. You know: pressing up, down, up, down, left, right, left, right, b, a in your settings screen. After that sequence a dialog appeared and then several more options would become available. This no longer works.

But yeah, the advanced settings cover this and they work fine. However I can definitely understand the confusion because the 'advanced settings' tab. is in the settings screen. So I think it's only logical that not everyone would also relate that to settings in the start page.

It still works the same way. And it even being discussed here.

It haven't been necessary since a long time, at least to hide the search bar.

And you can still use the Konami code to turn 'power user settings'.
