Opera 44: update error message in About Opera

Every day I check in to About Opera and see "44.0.2510.1449 (PGO) - An error occurred while checking for updates". I downloaded and reinstalled Opera but the problem persists. There does not seem to be a convenient way to check on what version is the latest; the download pages are coy about what version they are featuring so I have to actually download it to find out. Is there a site that displays the latest version?
