VPN problem.

Hi,
I've just started using Opera as my browser and I am pleased with its performance.
However, I've tried actioning the VPN function and the icon remains at orange and will not connect.
Is this something to do with anti virus, I use Avast and if so, what do I need to do to remedy the situation.
Could someone also advise what add ons are advised. I notice that Adobe Flash is not installed but to date this doesn't appear to present any problems.
I use windows 10.
