Opera 44 is stuck on opening page

I have used Opera for a while now but I updated it to issue 44 and now it doesn't do anything apart from opening.
I am using Windows 10 32 bit
I have checked for extensions - there are none.
I have retried after turning off AVG anti virus - no joy.

All my bookmarks are present and a fair few speed dial icons but when I press an icon or link or speed link or type and address, the "wait a sec" circular arrow at extreme top left turns clockwise but the browser does not connect. My Chrome browser and Edge browsers are working normally, ie connecting to pages etc.

I am presuming this trouble has been caused by the update, but I have no idea really.

Any suggestions ?

Is there any VPN (orange) icon in the address bar?
If so, click > Switch off > Refresh, test

Try to navigate from OMenu > New private window
If so:

Do you have any extension?
Try disabling them, test. (Proxy extensions could block the navigation if they stop working)
Ctrl + Shift + Del and clean # 4 and 7, refresh or restart, test.
Still problems?
Ctrl + Shift + Del and add to the clean # 3, refresh or restart, test.

Create a new profile (clean profile), Steps on forum's "FAQ..."
You'll need to set up Opera again.

For Bookmarks, OHelp > Find solution > Back Up
Or if works, use OSync.
