Netflix and nbc.com cannot load video after latest opera update

  • I recently updated Opera Beta (Windows 10). Yesterday before update could stream cbs.com, nbc.com (no ad blocker of course). Today after update I can still stream cbs.com but cannot nbc.com. On nbc.com, ads run, switches to the show, instead of viewing a blue encircled arrow (as if to start the video) is in the middle of the screen. The white start arrow on the bar at bottom of window is still there. Click on either of those arrows, and no error, another ad starts running. After ad, same behavior.

I read the comment about setting
opera://flags/#media-windows-mf-demuxer to "enabled" for another issue in this forum. When I did this change, the videos in nbc.com now run albeit seems the graphic quality is not as good.

    Beta Version:
Version: 45.0.2552.89 (PGO) - Opera is up to date
    Update stream: beta
    System: Windows 10 64-bit (WoW64)
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/58.0.3029.19 Safari/537.36 OPR/45.0.2552.89 (Edition beta)

I reinstalled Opera (stable version) as a test and it worked fine WITHOUT this setting change.
Version: 44.0.2510.1159 (PGO) - Opera is up to date
    Update stream: Stable
    System: Windows 10 64-bit
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/57.0.2987.133 Safari/537.36 OPR/44.0.2510.1159

NETFLIX ISSUE: Same type of issue - before update no problem; after update error O7361-1254. Checking Netflix help the closest error was F7361-1254 (for Firefox) so seems like it might be similar for Opera. Their suggestion was: Disable Flashblock Addon. Since I didn't have any extensions (but I DID have extensions before update) I couldn't make this change. I also read it might be older Flash so reinstalled from Adobe just in case - did not improve.

After making the demuxer change Netflix began to work. Again, no problems with NF on Stock Opera or previous beta version.

So things are operational for me, but wanted to post in case there is a better solution, or if this might help others.

  • Known issues

Problem: Video not working on some sites on Windows.
Solution: Enable MFDemuxer on Windows (opera://flags/#media-windows-mf-demuxer)
