Opera 43.0.2442.1165 on OSX 10.11.6 in a corporate environment.
When I check for Opera updates I get the message "An error occurred while checking for updates".
I also keep getting pop ups on the screen advising the version is available to download even though it is already installed.
The two issues have been on going over several versions of Opera and I was hoping someone knows of a fix please?

I've seen that message in Opera PortableApps version.
Did you updated Opera manually in those cases after seen the problem? Or you are in a "very" old version waiting to selfupdate?
You may have to download the installer and make a manual update / installation, maybe this fix the problem for future uptdates.

Opera is using a port not assigned as a standard web browsing port to check for updates, and your firewall probably blocks it. Check the blog or here in the forums - or subscribe to the blog's newsfeed - to see when a new version comes out and download it manually. (You can even install the new version while Opera is running, but you'll have to restart Opera once the installer finishes.)
I have seen that message once or twice when there were network issues between here and Norway, but never for very long.
