      Hello Opera Community.

Day 2, testing Opera v.43.0.2442.991. On my win 7 64bit its working smoothly. Great job by developers!^^

What made me to return in Opera (Presto user in the past) are features like VPN and Block Ads. Cool things! But my Firewall noticed me about some strange connections!

Could someone explain to me what is the purpose of these connections? To be more precise, Opera try to connect at startup with IPs: 162.144.19.11, 104.84.225.83

      Thank You

Are you using any plugins? That's the usual cause for external connections.

When doing some reverse lookups (dig -x) I could determine the hostnames:

        ;; ANSWER SECTION:
        11.19.144.162.in-addr.arpa. 86339 IN PTR cloud1040.hostgator.com.

        And:

        ;; ANSWER SECTION:
        83.225.84.104.in-addr.arpa. 1782 IN PTR a104-84-225-83.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com.

The last one sounds familiar, which makes me think in the direction of plugins.

          Hi shelluser,

Actually these connections appears even after disabling all extensions (which are LastPass, uBlockOrigin). Also I disabled VPN, native Block Ads, Theme, SpeedDial/Suggestion. If I block them on my Firewall, Opera works fine! Maybe they are some kind of sponsors/partners of Opera, maybe I've wrong!

Auto-update? VPN? Turbo? News feed? Speed Dial suggestions? Sync?

              Hi leocg,

I don't use Turbo, Synchronize. Opera doesn't offer (or haven't found yet) any option to turn OFF Auto-Update. Same for News feed.
Of course I can't expect that Opera behave different than other chromium based browsers. 😎

I've tested in a Clean Profile and there is no connections to those IPs.

Here all connections made by Opera at startup seems to be related to Opera's services.

                    Hi,

After some investigations, installing a new fresh copy, I found that those connections came from my imported Bookmarks.

                    http://imgur.com/GeEsXxk

Same bookmarks also had on browsers like Palemoon and Iridium, but I have not ever encountered these connections without clicking on them! Anyway, my apologies for wasting your time guys.

                    Have a nice day

Maybe Opera is checking to update thumbnail or favicon.

                      Anyway, mistery solved!
