Java applets don't work

I've just bought a laptop with Windows 10, installed the latest java v8 u111 and opera 42.0.2393.34. I know it's this browser as when I use IE 11 java applets work. I've checked settings and it says javascript is enabled.

Can somebody help as I'd rather use Opera than IE as it's quicker.

Support for Java has ended a long time ago in Chromium based browsers.

In fact, the Java plug-in is being discontinued by Oracle itself if not already have been.
