My large Speed Dial has mostly thumbnails with site images, a la old Opera style. I assume that's because many of those were imported (sync'd) from the latter. New ones, however, are drab Windows 10 style tiles. Is there are a way to get thumbnails to show with images, short of creating them in Opera 12, emptying Opera Blink's SD, and then re-syncing?

Yes. Open the link from the speed dial and then click the red heart icon to the right of the address bar. This allows you to edit or remove the entry. You can use the arrow buttons the appear on the pop up to cycles the available images you can display on the speed dial entry. One of them will be a screenshot of the website. You can also use the mouse to drag around and zoom any image you want to use on the tile.

Thanks! Most had an image or more to use, tho some were blank (gray) and thus stayed as tiles.

One thing: Not sure how to implement drag and drop in the last sentence. As soon as I click on an image the heart's pop up disappears. Would you break that down step by step please?

For me, when I click and hold on the image I am able to move it around inside the frame. This is helpful for when I am using the screenshot of the whole page as the thumbnail. I can zoom in using the mouse wheel and click and hold to drag the image around inside the frame and recenter it. Like if the page logo is in a corner or something.

              Got it, I think. Thanks.

The problem is that for most sites I can't get a thumbnail showing the top of the sites' pages, that is, how I visualize them, but have to settle for the first or lower image down, which often doesn't make much sense.

Opera always offers at least two options for a site: a screenshot and a colored tile with the address on it. If the site has images it will also offer some of them as selections also. Generally, you click the left arrow 2 or 3 times to get the screenshot. Its normally the first entry after the colored tile.

Actually, some sites don't have any screenshot choices other than the tile, just grayed out ones - e.g., https://www.reportez.com/en-us/. Many others only have screenshots of graphics further down the page than the top, so that the site title is not available as a thumbnail except as tile. The old Opera was not that way.

I just tried to bookmark that site and I was given two options: a tile and a screenshot. So something is wrong with your setup.

There seem to be a bug on Opera 42: http://www.opera.com/blogs/desktop/2016/12/opera-42-0-2393-94-stable-update/#comment-3061465036
