When I start typing an URL into the address bar of Opera 41 I get back a drop-down of suggestions for Google search. I don't want Google's or any other search engine's suggestions. I just want it to pull up recent URLs.

I did search for an answer before coming here...

1- They said there was some tick mark in the settings, but it looks like it's gone now.

2- They said add 'www.' before all URLs, but some of my addresses don't have 'www.' forms. This is a horrible solution anyway.

3- They said disable default search engine, but I can't figure out how or if it's even still possible.

How can I turn off this annoying search behavior in the address bar?

      thanks

Try unchecking 'Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar' in settings.

You know, I've seen that option many times in the settings but it looked like it would stop helping me with the URLs too, so I never even tried it.

Because of your post I thought I would give it a try, and hey! it seems to have eliminated the Google Search items in the drop-down, and it still seems to be offering completion options for the URL in the drop-down. So maybe that's exactly what I wanted.

I think it's poorly named, and that's probably because revenue comes from searches referred over to Google. Why not have a tick box for search and one for URLs?

Oh well, I'll try this for a few days. You might have fixed it. Thanks leocg.

It seemed to be what I wanted. It DID NOT stop suggesting URLs, which is why I never tried it in the first place.

            Thanks leocg.
