how to disable Speed Dial?

Hi y'all,
Sorry if this is a dumb question. I tried searching the forum, but that just brought me to the main forums page.
How do you disable Speed Dial? I would prefer a blank page or to be able to load an HTML page of links that I'd created on my local hard drive. I tried the instructions here, but I couldn't find the settings it was talking about:

I've also tried the Custom New Tab Page extension, but that just loads Speed Dial and THEN replaces it with the custom page, which is highly, highly annoying. I do not consider this a viable workaround.
I used to be a big Opera fan back in the 90s and then switched to Chrome. Now that Chrome has turned to bloatware, I am giving both Opera and Firefox a try again, and Firefox is currently winning because of this. So, I would greatly appreciate any help on this. Thank you!

I, too, would like to know how to disable "speed dial." I've got the same workaround as that described above, and I agree that it's wholly unsatisfactory. This is definitely a deal-breaker: if it's not addressed soon, I will give up on Opera.
