Downloaded new Adobe Shockwave Version 12.2.5.195 from (get.adobe.com/shockwave) and tried both the Slim and Full versions as Administrator. The plugin is not being recognized after install in Opera browser version 40.0.2308.62. What happens on the official test page (https://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/) and other Shockwave test pages is the area where a Shockwave Movie should play will be blank and the Opera Browser will download a file called "dir.dcr". Not sure if this is an Adobe problem or an Opera problem.

I'm pretty sure the Shockwave plugin is an old style NPAPI plugin like QuickTime and Silverlight.
Support for these was dropped in all Chromium-based browsers some time ago, so you won't be able to use Shockwave in Opera.
If you really need it you will have to use it in Firefox or Internet Explorer I'm afraid.

The clock is ticking on Firefox also. They intend to drop support at the end of the year.
