i just dropped firefox after 15 yrs of use & would appreciate help configuring opera namely:

1. can i have a toolbar w/ bookmarks? am currently bouncing back & forth from a speed dial tab to new tabs to manage bookmarks
2. how to set prefs such as home page, search engines, settings et al

1. Yes you can have a toolbar w/bookmarks. This can be activated under opera://flags where you can search for "bookmarks"
2. Setting home pages and search engines can be done in opera://settings. Here you just have to read a little about how Operas search engine in the URL bar works etc.

Noo, don't go there, it's no longer a "flag". It's in Opera menu -> Settings, under user interface.

For search engines you can also right-click any search field in the search webpage.

And if the bookmark treatment (the bookmarks bar, and the speed dial treatment) isn't sufficient for your purposes, take a look at some of the bookmark extensions for Opera, like Tidy Bookmarks, but there are others.
